What is The Agtron Gourmet Color Scale by SCAA?
I recently post a video on instagram of myself roasting coffee in the National Learning Service of Colombia (SENA) laboratory, and we were trying to match Agtron color disk with the coffee roast sample and then I got a couple of questions about what was the Agtron disk, I thought it was very common in the coffee world, but to be honest coffee world is so big that is completely normal that is not as popular as I thought.
The Agtron Gourmet Color Scale by SCAA (Specially Coffee Association of America) in other words is a system by numbers of colors of roasting from light to dark to standardized or make easier the roasting process.
This is a very useful tool because it helps you to match with the perfect color of roasting, depending of what kind of roasting type you are looking for.
What that this exactly mean? We have to follow this colors to have a good roast? Not necessary. But this a very convenient tool to match the perfect color of the roast you want to achieve.
I’m posting a picture of each Agtron disk and also the type of roast that match with so you can have a better idea of how this works.
